Stepping Into the Season of Renewal

Outside my window the wind is whipping, but March has been known to arrive in a bluster. Even bad weather feels easier with Spring close on the horizon.

If you’ve been stuck in a rut between the headlines and your hormones, it’s time to look forward to the season of renewal. Here are some tips for easing into Spring with wellness in mind.

Embrace Seasonal Foods: March brings a transition from winter to spring, so focus on incorporating fresh, seasonal vegetables and fruits into your diet.

One of the earliest is asparagus. With a short growing season of 5 – 6 weeks, this versatile plant has soon many ways to taste great. Here are a few of my favorites:

  1. Roasting: Toss asparagus spears with olive oil, salt, and pepper, then roast in the oven until tender and slightly crispy.
  2. Grilling: Drizzle asparagus with olive oil and season with salt and pepper, then grill until charred and tender.
  3. Steaming: Steam asparagus until just tender, then season with butter, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.

Start your morning with a few minutes of natural light. This is a year-round suggestion made easier with more daylight and milder temperatures. Take advantage of the opportunity to spend more time outdoors when you can, soaking in the sunshine and fresh air for an instant energy boost.

Spring Cleaning for Mind and Body: Use the energy of the season to declutter your living space and your mind. An organized space makes us feel calmer, which can lead to a greater sense of presence and clarity. Even the color of our surroundings affects our level of focus and awareness. Letting go of activities that don’t align with your priorities is a great metaphor for clearing the mind. In the words of Marie Kondo, ask yourself, “Does it bring me joy?” Implement a practice of taking inventory regularly to assess whether the things you’re spending time on will help you reach your goals
